Botanical Art on National Drawing Day

Saturday 16th May is National Drawing Day, promoted by many Irish galleries including The National Gallery of Ireland. Why not take the opportunity, with lockdown still in place, to try your hand at botanical art.

Shevaun Doherty, the ‘resident’ botanical artist at the Ellen Hutchins Festival says “Botanical art takes time and practice but it is a wonderful way to observe and appreciate the natural world.”

Shevaun has carefully selected a brush, pencil, eraser, sheets of paper, and a sketchbook. The cleverest bit of all is the portable palette case (aka CD case) with sixteen dabs of artist quality watercolour paint, in the colours Shevaun recommends, and with bigger blobs of the most important five!

It’s all packed in a very smart grey card box and looks and feels great. It makes a wonderful present to yourself, or to give to someone else.
