Short biography of Ellen Hutchins
A rather special story, about an exceptional person in a wonderful place
This little book tells key elements of Ellen’s story, and is illustrated by her drawings and specimens alongside photographs, old and new, of Bantry Bay where she ‘botanised’. It is a story of botany and beauty, landscape and letters, with Bantry Bay as the co-star.
It draws on recently transcribed letters and newly found archive materials to provide some new insights into Ellen’s life and studies, with delightful passages of her writing describing the beauty of the landscape around Ballylickey, details of plants she had found, and interesting historical references.
