Ellen Hutchins was a talented botanical artist as well as a gifted botanist. Learn about Ellen’s exquisite and detailed watercolour drawings of seaweeds from Bantry Bay, her “pleasure in plants“ and her “treasures”.
The Ellen Hutchins Festival works closely with award-winning Irish botanical artist, Shevaun Doherty, in the Festivals and on projects, including the wonderful Botanical Art Starter Pack. See two videos of Shevaun painting, and hear the story of her painting one of Ellen’s seaweed specimens, including a description of some of the processes involved in botanical art now and in the early 1800s.
The Ellen Hutchins Festival in August in the Bantry Bay area of West Cork, Ireland, includes botanical art demonstrations and classes.
