Costumes and Customs in the Early 1800s

Saturday’s treat is a free webinar by the lovely, lively historical re-enactor, Carrie O’Flynn, on Costumes and Customs: women’s lives in the early 1800s. Carrie will be in the quiet seclusion of her sewing shed in Cork City, in a period costume of her own making, sharing images and a video of getting all the layers of the costume on properly, and talking enthusiastically and with great knowledge about her passion, the costumes of the Regency period.

Do join us if you can. For free, 2pm to 3:30pm, and we won’t know if you are preparing runner beans for supper or painting your nails while it’s on. All attendees will be muted and invisible, but questions can be posed and will (probably) be answered.

Our wonderfully talented Festival designer, Jenny Dempsey, is producing a series of whimsical books, A Curious Lady’s Guide to… on the same topic of how Irish women lived in the past. The first book, A Lady’s Guide to Dinner Parties, equips you to cope with running the perfect dinner party in the 1790s. It’s a sumptuous visual delight, quirky and fun, full of historical information, and well worth a look.

Attendees at the webinar are promised a pre-publication double spread from the second book, set in the Regency period. Be there or miss it!
