Windows on Nature 2025

Ireland's first Female Botanist

Welcome to the Windows on Nature: Natural Heritage Family Town Trail in Bantry for Heritage Week 2025.

The displays in the shop windows tell the story of a significant place, significant plants and a significant person – or two. We hope that you enjoy exploring the trail.

Use the map to find all the windows. They can be visited in any order, though there is one final piece in one of the empty shops in New Street. Two are inside buildings – the Tourist Office and Bantry Credit Union (where there is also one outside). The rest can be seen at any time.

The free leaflets on seaweeds, lichens, mosses and liverworts, the tree trail and the heritage trail can be picked up from the Library (open Tuesday to Saturday), Tourist Office and Bantry Credit Union (half days on Wednesday and Saturday, closed Sunday)

See HERE for the chance to win hand lenses by giving us an account of doing the trail and what you did afterwards.

This project has been developed by the Ellen Hutchins Festival and is supported by Cork County Council and the Heritage Council under the County Heritage Plan Funding 2025. It also has funding from the UCC Sustainability Institute.
